NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's tennis team played two regional opponents at home last weekend, finishing with a 1-1 record.
Walsh lost 6-1 on Friday (Feb. 25) as Walsh won the doubles point. Shantala Uzcategui and Nicole Beidacki were 7-5 winners in second doubles with Carla Padberg and Isabella Sanchez winning 6-3 in third doubles.
In a match played to clinch, Walsh came away in a 5-0 win over Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Feb. 26). The Cavaliers swept the doubles point with three wins as Risako Umekuni and Alexa Gamborino were victorious 6-3 while the pairings of Uzcategui/Beidacki and Padberg/Sanchez also won. Umekuni won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in first singles. Uzcategui battled for a three set win (3-6, 7-5, 7-5) in second singles over her opponent Patricia Dizon. Gamborino and Beidacki each had wins to clinch the match.
