NORTH CANTON, OH: It was a great evening on Larry Staudt Field for the first Men's Lacrosse rivalry game vs the Malone Pioneers. Walsh and Malone have a long historical rivalry in athletics as it is sometimes considered, "The Battle of Canton" as the schools are just a few miles apart. This is the first season that Malone has a men's lacrosse team so Wednesday evenings contest was the first ever match up. Like any rivalry, each team fought hard for everything they could get. The first 30 minutes was action packed with scoring going back and forth between both teams. At half, the Cavaliers led Malone 7-5. The Maroon and Gold came out with a chip on their shoulder in the second half, absolutely throttling the Pioneers. The Walsh offensive and defensive efforts could not be contained. The offense scored 15 goals and the defense only allowed one goal in the last 30 minutes of play. The Cavs would take game one in the new rivalry, 22-6.
