MASON, OH: The Walsh University Cavaliers entered the 2024 G-MAC Baseball Tournament with high hopes after a 27-21 regular season. However, their postseason journey was a short-lived one.
GAME 1: Trevecca Nazarene 3, Walsh 1
In the opening round against #4 seed Trevecca Nazarene, Walsh struck first on
Benny Hymes IV's RBI single in the 1st inning. But that's where the offense stalled against Trevecca's tough pitching. The Trojans rallied for two runs in the 4th and another in the 7th to take a 3-1 lead. Caleb Marks was masterful for the Trojans, tossing a complete game while allowing just seven hits and striking out eight. The Cavaliers struggled with runners on base, leaving seven men stranded.
Brodey Acres had two hits while
Nick Lallathin took the loss, allowing only three runs over seven innings.
GAME 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 9, Walsh 7
After the opening round loss, Walsh was sent to the elimination bracket to face #8 seed Kentucky Wesleyan. The Panthers raced out to a 7-2 lead through three innings. Walsh tried to battle back, scoring four runs in the 8th to cut the deficit to 9-6. Morse and Acres each drove in a pair of runs during the rally. The Cavs tacked on another run in the 9th on Morse's RBI single, but it wasn't enough as Kentucky Wesleyan held on for a 9-7 victory. Morse and Acres combined for six hits and six RBIs in the losing effort.
Alex Beyerle took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) over 2.2 innings. The tough defeat officially ended Walsh's season at 27-23 overall. It was a disappointing conclusion after the Cavaliers had entered the conference tournament hoping to make a deep run.
