MIDLAND, MI - The Walsh University Cavaliers suffered a tough 84-70 loss to the Northwood University Timberwolves in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup at Riepma Arena on Saturday, January 18th. This defeat dropped Walsh's record to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play, while Northwood improved to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in the G-MAC.
The Cavaliers started strong, taking a 44-41 lead into halftime. However, Northwood's offense caught fire in the second half, outscoring Walsh 43-26 to secure the victory.
Ayden Carter led the charge for Walsh with a game-high 34 points, shooting 9-of-22 from the field and an impressive 15-of-16 from the free-throw line. Carter also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for a double-double performance.
Quintero Barnett provided a spark off the bench with 11 points in 35 minutes of play.
Despite Carter's heroics, the Cavaliers struggled to find their shooting touch, finishing at just 36.7% from the field compared to Northwood's scorching 59.0%. The Timberwolves' balanced attack saw five players score in double figures, led by Will Young II's 21 points.
Walsh's defense had difficulty containing Northwood's offense, allowing 48 points in the paint and 13 fast break points. The Cavaliers also lost the rebounding battle 34-28, which contributed to their second-half struggles.
