FINDLAY, OH - The Walsh University Cavaliers fell to the University of Findlay Oilers 90-79 in a high-scoring Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup at Croy Physical Education Center on Thursday, January 30th. This loss dropped Walsh's record to 7-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while Findlay improved to 18-2 overall and 11-1 in the G-MAC.
The Oilers started strong, taking a 48-38 lead into halftime. Walsh fought back in the second half, outscoring Findlay 41-42, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Kobe Mitchell led the charge for Walsh with 20 points, including four three-pointers.
Kaleb Schaffer had a strong performance as well, contributing 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range.
Zack Oddo recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cavaliers' sharp shooting kept them in the game, as they finished shooting 48.3% from the field and an impressive 42.9% from beyond the arc. However, Findlay's bench proved to be the difference-maker, outscoring Walsh's reserves 55-14.
For Findlay, Anthony Johnson led the team with 16 points in just 18 minutes of play. Mason Brandt and Alex Kendall each contributed 13 points off the bench.
Despite Walsh's strong offensive performance, they couldn't overcome Findlay's balanced attack and superior bench production. The Oilers managed to outscore Walsh in points off turnovers (14-6) and second-chance points (17-8), which proved crucial in securing the win.
Next up, the Cavaliers will return home to face Northwood University on Saturday, February 1st at 3:00 P.M. in another Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup.
