NORTH CANTON, OH: It was the battle of the unbeaten on Saturday afternoon at Larry Staudt Field. The 4-0 University of Findlay Oilers came to North Canton, also ranked 21st in the country. Walsh, also coming in to the contest 4-0, has been on a hot streak. The Cavs defeated ODU last week for the first time in 13 years and the best start in the NCAA era. Both Walsh and Findlay were just 2 of 16 teams undefeated in DII in the country.
The first quarter saw both offenses stay stagnant with neither team striking. The strong and consistent Walsh defense forced two turnovers in the opening quarter thanks to an
Eddie Nichols interception and a
Chris Jones fumble recovery.
The Cavalier offense, led by true freshman QB,
Cole Norris, found the end zone after the fumble recovery taking the lead 7-0. From that possession on, the Orange and Black from Findlay took over the game. The 21st ranked team in the Country scored 28 straight points on the Maroon and Gold.
Jarrad Kerekes put a 30 yard field goal through in the 4th quarter to find Walsh three points but in the end, Walsh suffered their first loss of the season, 31-10.
The Cavs have another tall task ahead of them next week, as they will travel west to Tiffin University. Kick off is set for 1pm.
