Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AS WALSH LOSES TO D'YOUVILLE

NORTH CANTON, OH: In a thrilling lacrosse match between D'Youville and Walsh, the game started with intense action right from the opening whistle. D'Youville quickly took control, with Obrigh Tallchief scoring the first goal within the first 25 seconds of play, putting D'Youville ahead 1-0. Walsh answered back with an equalizer from James Sternberg at 13:34, followed by Toby Olynyk's goal at 12:39, putting Walsh up 2-1.

D'Youville's offense kicked into gear after a penalty as Logan Schwartz scored a man-down goal to take back the lead, 3-2. This marked a turning point, as D'Youville found their rhythm with several more goals. Brady Ruffalo tied the game at 2-2 and added another goal later in the period, with assists from Carsyn Kent and Stefano Evan, bringing D'Youville ahead 4-2.

The game was dominated by D'Youville's effective offense and stellar goalkeeping by Casey Berns, who repeatedly thwarted Walsh's shots. At 1:10, Tallchief extended the lead to 5-2, followed by Ruffalo's second goal, making it 6-2. The dominance continued into the second period as D'Youville piled on more goals. Tallchief and Ruffalo contributed with more scores, with Tallchief earning his fourth of the game, assisted by Suman Ramlall, at 11:27.

Although Walsh showed some life with James Sternberg's goal and Toby Olynyk's strike, D'Youville's lead remained firm. The game's intensity didn't let up, with Walsh fighting to stay in the game, but D'Youville kept pushing. By the third quarter, the score was 12-5, with more contributions from Tallchief, who notched his fifth goal, and others like Jonathan Abbarno and Brady Ruffalo.

Despite Walsh's late rally, with goals from Winsten Lomax, Joseph Rush, and Hudson Dennill, D'Youville's defense and Berns' saves ensured they kept control, eventually winning 12-11. The match was full of turnovers, save efforts, and an impressive performance from both teams, but in the end, D'Youville triumphed.

Walsh will return to Larry Staudt Field on Saturday, 2/22, for a 12pm game vs Frostburg State.
