SOFTBALL CLOSES THE SEASON AT HOME AGAINST HILLSDALE

NORTH CANTON, OH: The Walsh University softball team wrapped up its 2025 regular season with a doubleheader against the Hillsdale College Chargers on April 26th. Despite a strong effort, the Cavaliers fell in both games, concluding their season with a 10-30 overall record. Hillsdale improved to 33-16 with the sweep, showcasing strong pitching and timely hitting in both contests.

Game 1: Hillsdale's ace pitcher J. Russell (19-2) delivered a dominant performance, tossing a complete-game one-hit shutout while striking out 10 batters. The Chargers jumped on Walsh early, scoring an unearned run in the first inning and then breaking the game open with a two-run homer by A. Strick in the second. Walsh's defense struggled with four errors, which contributed to Hillsdale's scoring opportunities. Senior Hannah Hoverman led the Chargers offensively with three hits and three RBIs, including a key double in the fourth inning. Walsh's Delaney Peters (1-2) struggled to contain Hillsdale's offense, lasting just 2.1 innings and allowing four runs (two earned).

Game 2: The second game went similarly with Walsh showing resilience despite falling 4-1. Hillsdale struck early again with a three-run second inning, highlighted by T. Lewis's two-RBI single. Walsh got on the board in the sixth inning when Jenna Jaffee singled to center field, driving in Breckyn Hamm who had doubled earlier. However, Hillsdale's pitcher G. Harris (4-1) held steady, scattering five hits and allowing just one run over seven innings. Walsh's Chloe Sayre (6-6) pitched a complete game, striking out five but giving up four runs on seven hits. Despite the loss, Walsh's offense showed flashes of life with five hits in the game, led by Jaffee's two hits and Hamm's double.
