COLUMBUS, OH: The Walsh University softball team split a doubleheader with Ohio Dominican University on Wednesday, April 9, falling 4-1 in the opener before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory in the second game. The Cavaliers now stand at 9-19 overall, while the Panthers move to 17-21.
The Cavaliers couldn't overcome an early deficit in the opener despite solid offensive efforts from Lindsey Bingham (2-for-4, run scored) and Jenna Jaffee (walk, run scored). Ohio Dominican plated single runs in the second and fourth innings before Walsh got on the board in the fifth when Bingham scored on a Panthers defensive miscue. Maci Smythe (3-8) turned in a quality start, going the distance with four earned runs allowed while striking out two.
The Cavaliers turned the tables in the second game behind a stellar pitching performance from Chloe Sayre (4-3). After Ohio Dominican took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, Walsh responded in the fifth when Lindsey Bingham doubled to right center, driving in Jenna Jaffee and Laney Ferrance for the decisive runs.
