NORTH CANTON, OH: It was a great day for the Walsh Men's Basketball program as the beat Malone for the second time this season. Along with the win, Walsh honored their seniors and earned the #1 seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament. Walsh will host Hillsdale in a quarterfinal match up on Tuesday night.
In front of a packed gym, the contest started as expected and like many other games through out the season. Having the lead from tip off, the Pioneers hung with the 15th ranked Cavs until
Quintero Barnett had enough. At the three minute mark of the first half, Barnett scored 8 straight points for Walsh, giving the squad momentum to bust the game wide open, in favor of the Maroon and Gold. The Cavs finished the half on a 16-0 run, leading 37-19.
The momentum continued for the Walsh Men as they consistently held a 20-25 point lead, not giving the Pioneers any hope. The biggest lead of the afternoon was 29 points. Efficient shooting also helped the Cavs cause, shooting 49% and 54% from the floor in the second half. The 24th win of the season also secured the Mayor's Cup for the Cavaliers.
