NEWPORT, KY: It was a great weekend for the Walsh Bowling programs at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships last weekend. For the third season in a row, the Walsh Women won the G-MAC title while the Men finished runner up to Thomas More.Â
The Women's championship journey began on Friday during the qualifying rounds, where the team knocked down 2,339 total pins to secure the #4 seed. They immediately made their presence felt in the opening round of Baker match play, squaring off against #3 seed and fellow G-MAC rival Ursuline. In what would become the closest match up of Friday's slate, Walsh rallied from an early deficit to force a decisive seventh game, ultimately edging out the Arrows 4-3 to advance in the winner's bracket.
On Saturday, the Cavaliers faced a gauntlet. After battling #2 seed Emmanuel in a hard-fought six-game series (falling 4-2), Walsh dropped into the elimination bracket with their tournament lives on the line. Unfazed, the Cavaliers bounced back with a dominant 4-1 victory over #5 Thomas More (145-168, 169-134, 189-157, 185-154, 149-114).
The win over Thomas More Saturday secured the Cavs the championship trophy.Â
In the Mega Match format, in partnership with Conference Carolina, the Cavs fell to Belmont Abbey, 4-1 ending the weekend.Â
The Walsh Men earned G-MAC runner up in nailbiting fashion, nearly winning the title. Walsh stormed out of the gates, taking games one, three, and four to build a daunting 3-1 series lead over the Saints. With their back-to-back title hopes on the line, Thomas More caught fire. The Saints rattled off a clutch 204-180 win in game five, followed by a 180-167 victory in game six to force a decisive, winner-take-all Game 7. In a nail-biting finale, Thomas More held their nerve, edging out Walsh by a mere three pins (179-176) to complete the miraculous 4-3 series comeback.Â
The Cavaliers also earned top conference awards for the 2025-2026 season.
