MIDLAND, MI: Conference play opened up for the Walsh Men's Lacrosse on Saturday morning. The Cavaliers took on the Northwood Timberwolves on the road to get things underway in the Great Midwest.
The Maroon and Gold started hot scoring 4 straight goals to build a 5-1 lead early in the first quarter. The tides switched on the back half of the opening period as Northwood cut the deficit to to just one goal at the end of the first.
Back and fourth scoring in the second found Walsh with a 1 goal lead heading into halftime.
With a knotted up score of 9-9 after three quarters, the Cavs knew it would be a race to the finish line with every possession being important. With under three minutes to play, the Timberwolves scored two quick goals to give them their largest lead of the game, 12-10.
AJ Harrison connected on a last minute goal for Walsh to get them within a goal but
Maguire Smith's shot at the buzzer was blocked.
The Cavaliers will return to Larry Staudt Field on Tuesday, at 4pm, vs Point Park.
