NORTH CANTON, OH: The Walsh Cavalier Football program moved to 4-0 on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Ashland University Eagles. Both G-MAC teams were receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association DII Poll over the last few weeks.
It was a defensive battle as the first half only saw three points from each team by the halftime break.
After halftime is when the scoring picked up. The Cavaliers took the ball down the field in their first possession, going 73 yards down the field. Quarterback,
Hayden Wickard, had two big runs in the possession, one being a 14 yard carry putting the Cavs up 10-3.
The Eagles struck back later in the quarter with a 45 yard touchdown pass. After the Eagle score, the momentum shifted to the Cavaliers as
Braeden Springer ran back the kick off 89 yards. With prime field position on the 2 yard line,
Jake Gill found the end zone, giving Walsh a 17-10 lead, with the third quarter winding down.
As both teams traded the ball back and fourth most of the final quarter, the biggest Cavalier stop of the day was with three minutes to go as the Cavs stopped the Eagles inside the 10 yard line.
This is Walsh's 2
nd win over Ashland in three years. It is also the Cavaliers 2
nd straight season of a 4-0 start.
The Maroon and Gold will be on the road next week as they travel to face the Thomas More University Saints. Kick off is set for 7pm next Saturday.
