Michigan Tech Takes Down Cavs

Box Score

(HOUGHTON, Mich.) - Walsh had a difficult time with Michigan Tech and fell by a score of 83-68 to close out the conference opening weekend. The Cavaliers are now 3-3 and 0-2 in the GLIAC while the host Huskies improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Michigan Tech led from start to finish and built a double-digit lead just a few minutes into the game. The Cavs battled back after Tara Gallupe (Sr., 6-0, Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) scored on a layup to bring them within four at 19-15, but the Huskies went on a 23-6 run over the last 11:27 in the first half. The run continued after halftime as Tech scored the first nine points in the second half.

The Cavs made a run late in the game to come within 12, but were unable to cut the deficit to single digits.

The loss took away from Kelsey Funderburgh's (So., 5-7, North Lewisburg, OH/Triad/Morehead State) monster game as she finished with a game-high 29 points. Theresa Jackson (Fr., 5-10, Wakeman, OH/Collins Western Reserve) was impressive off the bench as she scored 14.

The Huskies received a balanced offensive effort and were led by Mackenzie Perttu who scored 16 points.

Walsh will return to action against Northwood University for the conference home opener this Thursday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Alumni Arena. The game will be streamed live on TEAMLINE.
