Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – If for some reason the Walsh women's basketball team couldn't play in North Canton, it certainly doesn't have any issues playing at Lake Erie College. The Cavaliers won their third consecutive game there to start the season with a 78-53 victory over host Ursuline. The Arrows (0-3) are using Lake Erie College's gym as its designated home while its own gym is still under repair.
Defense carried the Cavs once again as Ursuline committed 27 turnovers, 17 of which were Walsh steals. That in turn led to a good portion of its offense as the Cavs scored 35 points off of those turnovers.
Walsh led from start to finish, but Ursuline played close for the first half before the Cavs created more of a cushion in the second half. The Arrows' last threat came with 3:02 left in the first half when they cut the Cavs' lead to 32-28, but a Brittni Clopton layup and a Kelsey Funderburgh 3-pointer made the score 37-28 at the break.
The Cavaliers controlled the second half as they pushed the lead to double-digits and never let it sink to single digits the rest of the way. They led by as many as 29.
Funderburgh led all scorers with 16 points and added seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Jalynn Graham and Audrey Badovick both scored 11 points, and Brooklyn Wooten rounded out Walsh's double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Delayne Seigla led Ursuline with 12 points off the bench.
Walsh is now off until Tuesday when it hosts Clarion in a non-conference affair. The Cavaliers' home opener is set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
