Box Score (MIDLAND, Mich.) – The Walsh women's basketball team was tripped up by Northwood by a score of 65-48 Thursday evening in the first game of a three-game road trip. The Timberwolves (4-3, 2-1) led from start to finish to hand the Cavaliers (5-3, 0-3) their third consecutive defeat.
Northwood was aided by hot first half that saw it shoot a blistering 61.9 percent from the field en route to a 35-24 halftime lead. The Timberwolves jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. Walsh got back into the game with the next five points thanks to Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) and Holly Grober (5-11, Fr., Hermitage, PA/Hickory), but the hosts eventually built their lead to double-digits.
Walsh made another rally at the beginning of the second half and cut the deficit down to eight at 40-32 after a jumper by Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing), but it was the closest the Cavs could get the rest of the way as Northwood responded with a 7-0 run despite shooting 22.6 percent in the second half.
Clopton led the Cavs with 14 points as she was 4-of-8 from the floor and added five rebounds. Alex Hochstedler (5-9, Fr., Fishers, IN/HS) was the only other Cavs' player to reach double-figures with 10 points off the bench.
Northwood had three players score in double-figures and were led by Lauren Robak with a game-high 16 points.
Walsh is back in action at Lake Superior State on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
