Box Score (PITTSBURGH) – In the last of three-straight games against former conference opponents, Walsh came away with a 3-0 win against Point Park at Highmark Stadium. Five players for the Cavaliers (3-1-1) combined to score the three goals. All three of their wins come as a result of a shutout. The Pioneers are now 2-6 on the season.
Jessie Gearhart scored the opening goal on a header thanks to a cross from Emily Durina just 50 seconds into the contest. The game was relatively even for the remainder of the half, but Walsh's defense limited the Pioneers' chances and Shambaugh made three of her four five saves in the first 45.
The second half belonged to the Cavaliers. Kristen Conti added a second goal early in the second half on another assist from Durina in the 56th minute. Mackenzie Gatchel added the final touches with a goal in the 87th minute. Emma Angari assisted the score for her second point of the year. Both Conti's and Gatchel's goals were their second of the season.
Shambaugh and Michaella Stucky combined for the shutout. Stucky came on in the 63rd minute and made one save.
Gearhart's score was her fourth goal of the year. Durina now has five assists on the season. Both currently lead the GLIAC in the respective categories. Gearhart also leads the conference with nine points.
Walsh now turns its attention to Sunday's big rivalry game against Malone. It will also serve as the Cavs' conference opener. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. as the opening end of a men's and women's doubleheader.
