Box Score (HOUGHTON, Mich.) – Walsh fell even in the GLIAC in the opening weekend of conference play with a hard-fought 70-64 loss to Michigan Tech on Saturday. The Cavaliers (3-2, 1-1) and Huskies (4-2, 2-0) exchanged leads 14 times and were tied 11 times in the game with neither team holding a lead larger than six until late in the game.
The Cavaliers took their last six-point lead after Jalynn Graham capped off a 7-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter with a layup. That made the score 34-28, but the Huskies followed up with a 9-2 run to regain the lead.
Neither team could pull away until the Cavaliers were forced to foul late. A Brooklyn Wooten layup with 20 seconds left brought Walsh within a possession, but the Huskies put the game away with three final free throws.
Wooten finished with a season-high 18 points and led the team with eight rebounds as well. She was 8-of-17 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers. Brittni Clopton and Alex Hochstedler joined her in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Tech was paced by Danielle Blake who finished with a double-double on a game-high 20 points and 10 boards. Morgan Anderson followed with 18 points. Kylie Moxley added 13.
The Cavaliers finish their four-game road trip 2-2 and will look to get back in the win column against Northwood this Thursday. Tip-off with the Timberwolves is set for 5:30 p.m.
