Second Half Cold Spell Dooms Cavs

Box Score

(FINDLAY, Ohio) - A cold start to the second half doomed Walsh in its bid for sole possession of second place in the GLIAC South as it fell 77-64 to Findlay Thursday evening. It was an important matchup between the two teams as the Cavaliers (14-10, 10-10) are now holding onto the third and final automatic conference tournament bid by one game and are one game below the Oilers (14-10, 11-9).

Walsh was down 37-33 at halftime, but missed 10 of its first 11 shots in the second half. That paired with untimely turnovers led to an Oilers' 26-2 run that started with the hosts draining a 3-pointer as time expired in the first half.

That ultimately decided the game as the Cavaliers couldn't break the deficit closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Zac Carter (5-9, So., Ironton, OH/HS) led the Cavs with 16 points. Jesse Hardin Jr. (6-2, Jr., Warren, OH/Harding) followed up with 15 points and Davonte Beard (6-2, Sr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rounded out Walsh's double-figure scorers with 14 markers.

The Cavs had no answer for Findlay's Jake Heagan who had a game-high 24 points on 8-of-15 from the field. He was lethal from behind the arc as he made 6-of-9. Overall, Findlay made 51.8 percent of its action shots and was 50 percent from three with 12 treys.

Walsh will attempt to regroup as it finishes the regular season with a pair of home games. First up is Wayne State on Saturday. Tip-off with the Warriors is set for 3 p.m.
