(HOUGHTON, Mich.) – A cold start to Saturday's GLIAC Tournament semifinal doomed Walsh as it fell to Ashland 80-64 at Michigan Tech's SDC Gym. The Cavaliers end the season at 20-9. The Eagles improve to 22-7 and advance to tomorrow's championship against Michigan Tech.

Ashland inundated the Cavs with a 20-3 run to start the game and the Maroon and Gold was never able to recover. By the time Walsh scored its second field goal, a Brittni Clopton (Fr., 5-11, Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) layup, 12:33 had already ticked off the first half clock. By halftime, the Eagles were up 40-19.

Nothing fell for the Cavs as they shot 30.4 percent, 21-of-69, for the game. Of those, 41 were taken from behind the arc with only 11 falling true. In the meantime Ashland took advantage, especially inside the paint where it outscored Walsh 48-15.

Ashland's Laina Snyder did a good bit of work as she scored 17 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double. She was difficult to stop as she made 8-of-13 from the field. The Eagles were led by All-GLIAC selection Taylor Woods' 21 points.

Kelsey Funderburgh (Jr., 5-7, North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) was the top point-getter for the Cavs with 14. Twelve of those points were a result of four 3-pointers. Rachael Trujillo (Jr., 5-8, Cleveland, OH/Westlake) added 11 points with three treys. Jalynn Graham rounded out the Walsh double-figure scorers with 10 markers.
