Box Score (ASHLAND, Ohio) – Walsh fell to No. 6 Ashland by a score of 78-64 in GLIAC action at Kates Gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Cavaliers dropped to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference while the Eagles remained unbeaten at 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the GLIAC. It was the first game against teams from the South Division for both schools.
The Cavs started off the game on fire as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead after a jumper by Alex Hochstedler just over four minutes into the game. Holly Grover was a main component of the Walsh offense in the first quarter as she scored all 10 of her points during that time and capped off the quarter with a layup to bring the Cavs within one at 21-20.
Ashland took control of the game with a 6-0 run to start the second quarter. Walsh responded with baskets by Brooklyn Wooten and Hochstedler, but the Eagles went on a 13-2 run to close the half.
Brittni Clopton paced the Cavs throughout the game with team-highs in both points and rebounds with 15 and seven, respectively. Funderburgh joined her and Grober in double figures with 13 points.
Laina Snyder led a quartet of Eagles in double figures with 17 points.
The Cavaliers will return to action at home as they entertain Lake Erie on Saturday. Tip-off with the Storm is set for 1 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
