Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh's five-match home win streak was snapped at the hands of Hillsdale in a five-set thriller on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (5-9, 1-5) took the first and fourth sets, while the Chargers (12-2, 5-1) won the second, third, and fifth.
Both teams battled back and forth through the opener as neither team held a lead of more than four points. That belonged to the Cavaliers after an attack error by Hillsdale put them up 13-9. Both teams eventually fought to a 22-22 tie before a kill and an ace by Gina Kramer followed by an attack error by the Chargers gave Walsh the set 25-22.
The second set appeared very similar to the first, but after the teams were tied at 21, Hillsdale was able to score four of the last five points to tie the match. The third set was similar with the teams being tied at 16-16 before Hillsdale won 25-20.
Walsh rallied in the fourth and took a big lead at 17-9 after an attack error gave the Cavs the largest lead of the match. The Chargers came back with the next seven points, but Walsh did not yield the lead to force the fifth with a 25-21 win.
Hillsdale controlled most of the final stanza as it jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The Cavs came as close as 9-6 after a Kramer kill, but could get no closer as the visitors won the next six points for the match.
Kramer led the Cavs with 18 kills. Paola Ferrario followed with 17. Olivia Zanolli was an assist shy of 50 as she set up the attack.
On the defensive side, five Cavaliers recorded double figures in digs with Amanda Adoranti leading the way with 19. Walsh also blocked 14 attempts from Hillsdale with Emily Arnold being a part of eight of them.
