Box Score (UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) – Walsh fell to Saginaw Valley State by a score of 3-1 on the road in GLIAC action on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers are 6-3-1 overall and even in the conference at 2-2. The Cardinals improved to 8-2-1 overall and are 2-1-1 in the GLIAC now.
The first goal went to the Cavaliers as Rachel Repasky scored on a cross pass from 17 yards out from Brianna Sanborn late in the first half. It was her second goal of the season and gave the Maroon and Gold a 1-0 lead as both teams headed into the halftime break.
The lead didn't last too long after the start of the second as the Cardinals' Kristin Syrowik scored the equalizer at 51:50 on an assist from Amanda Minissale. Syrowik found the back of the net once again for the go-ahead score four minutes later. SVSU added an insurance goal in the 68th minute to set up the final score.
Saginaw Valley controlled the ball for most of the game and outshot the Cavaliers 21-10. The Cavs and Cards were 6-6 on shots in the first half, but the hosts held a 15-4 advantage in the second.
Walsh was credited with six seven saves with Dani Shambaugh credited with six.
The Cavaliers end its stretch of six-straight games on the road 4-2. They will return home to host defending national champion Grand Valley State. Kickoff with the Lakers is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
