Box Score (AUBURNDALE, Fla.) – Walsh remained unbeaten in Florida with a 5-4 victory over future conference foe Ohio Valley at Lake Myrtle Park on Monday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 5-5 on the season while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-9.
The Cavs rallied for three runs in the sixth inning and worked their way out of a jam in the ninth to preserve the win. Joe Pourier was credited with the win and Ryan McSweeney earned the save, first for both of them this season.
Ohio Valley started the scoring with a three-spot in the top of the third inning. Walsh answered in the bottom of the frame as Luke Caple doubled to left field that scored Brook Clark. Walsh cut the deficit by another run in the next inning as Tyson Lautanen hit a triple to score Johnny Knight IV.
In the sixth, a couple of wild pitches allowed the Cavaliers to tie the game after Stalnaker doubled earlier in the inning. Austin Szink, who was also on base, came around to score on a single by Lautanen to left field. Jerad Kitzler plated the final run on a double to left that brought in Lautanen.
The Fighting Scots threatened in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded with no outs. McSweeney came on in relief and retired his first two batters with a foul out to first and a strike out swinging. He walked the next batter to make the score 5-4, but recovered and forced the next batter to ground out to first and end the game.
The Cavaliers return to action tomorrow as they take on Minnesota State Mankato. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
