Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh defeated Davis & Elkins 69-46 in the G-MAC opener and first meeting ever between the two schools Thursday evening at Alumni Arena. The Cavaliers jumped back over .500 to 4-3 while the Senators fell to 1-3.
The Cavaliers led for almost the entirety of the game. The Senators took their only lead at 3:48 of the first quarter on a 3-pointer by Sydney Turner, but Walsh answered with a triple by Allison Butler to give the Cavs the lead back at 9-7 on the next trip down the floor.
The Senators were able to get two more baskets before the end of the quarter, including the last points on a layup to make the score 14-11 with 1:05 left. However the Cavs defense started to take over the game as that would be the Senators' last field goal for the next 15:08 of game time.
Davis & Elkins was limited to just six points in the second quarter, the fewest allowed in any period by the Cavaliers this season. The visitors eventually broke the skid with a layup at the 4:57 mark of the third, but Walsh answered with a 3-pointer by Jill Blacksten.
Walsh led by as many as 31 after a Kimmie Borck triple gave the Cavs a 57-26 lead with 20 seconds left in the third.
Mayci Sales continued her impressive rookie season with a game-high 14 points on 6-of-11 from the field. She also tied Holly Grober and Davis & Elkins' Sydney Turner with seven rebounds for game-high honors. Sales has scored in double-figures in each of her last four games.
Borck added 12 for the Cavs and was 4-of-6 from the field. Nine of them came from behind the arc on four attempts.
Walsh will return to action in the final contest of its three-game home stand on Saturday against Alderson Broaddus. Tip-off will take place at 3 p.m.
