Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers faced the Oilers of Findlay in a back and forth contest earlier this afternoon (Jan. 25) in Alumni Arena. The 81-72 win lifts Walsh to 18-2 overall and 9-1 in the G-MAC.
The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes, including a 36-36 tie heading into halftime. Walsh's largest lead came at the 15:30 mark off an Alphonso Baity layup, assisted by Christian Montague.
The Cavaliers were down 65-64 with just under eight minutes to play, when Darryl Straughter drilled his four three-pointer of the day to take back the lead, 67-65. The Oilers were able to tie the game at 71 off a pair of free throws at the 4:30 mark. Mark Mokros then connected for a pair of free throws to take back the lead, 73-71. The Cavaliers did not give up the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Straughter shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (4-8) en route to a game-high 27-point performance, as well as leading the team in steals with four. Baity played solid miniutes off the bench as he poured in 19 points on 8-12 shooting in 23 minutes, before sitting the final seven minutes of the game due to injury. Caleb Canter was just shy of a double-double as he contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Cavaliers will turn around and face Findlay again next Saturday (Feb. 1), this time in Oiler territory.
