Carter Reaches 1,000 as Walsh Rolls Past Malone

CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University women's basketball team headed down the road as they took on the Pioneers of Malone this evening (Feb. 17). The 81-75 victory marks the fifth consecutive time Walsh has defeated Malone. The Cavs have now won 18 straight games and improve to 23-2 overall and 16-0 in the G-MAC. 

One of the highlights of today's contest was Quionche Carter reaching 1,000 points as a sophomore. The Southfield, Michigan native poured in a team-best 27 points on 10-19 shooting, putting her at 1,008 career points. Carter also contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Tyler Newkirk scored 21 points on 8-14 shooting, while adding five rebounds and three steals. Mayci Sales was just short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Sales also led the team in assists with five. 

Walsh went wire-to-wire with Malone, with their largest lead coming at the 5:35 mark of the fourth quarter, as the Cavs were up 13. The Cavaliers shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the arc. Walsh also outrebounded Malone 41-25. 

The rivalry heads home as the Cavaliers host the Pioneers on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 5:30 pm for the Mayor's Cup.
