Box Score PAINSVILLE, Ohio - The Walsh University men's basktball team played the first game of today's (Feb. 29) double header as they defeated the Storm of Lake Erie, 82-72 to close out the regular season. The Cavaliers finish the regular season 22-6 overall and 13-5 in the G-MAC.
Walsh got hot early as they shot 52.3 percent from the floor and 52.6 percent from deep in the first half, including three 3's from both Christian Montague and Mark Mokros. The Cavs held a 24-point lead at half (49-25), but Lake Erie did not go away easily as they cut the little to as few as three points in the second half of action, before Walsh pulled away for the win.
Montague was the high scorer of the day, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Mokros and Darryl Straughter each chipped in 15, while Mokros also grabbed a team-best nine boards. Conner Wess contributed 12 points on four 3's off the bench. Caleb Canter added 10 points and seven rebounds, and JT Shumate finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
The Cavaliers have secured a spot in the G-MAC tournament and will play a quarterfinal game on Tuesday (March 3) at a time and place yet to be announced.
