Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - On the help of six home runs and 13 hits, the Walsh Cavaliers baseball team delivered a 13-7 non-conference victory over the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars on Tuesday (April 27) afternoon at Biery Stadium.
Walsh improved to 23-11 overall on the season with their second straight victory. In the home run madness, there was a touch of Walsh baseball history in the mix.
Mount Vernon opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a RBI single. Walsh took the 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a four-run inning. Andrew Czech blasted a two-run home run to left field on the third batter of the day as he became the program's all-time leader in home runs with 43 roundtrippers. Ben Lefebvre followed with a two-run single later in the inning. The Cougars tied the game with two runs in the third and one in the fourth inning. The Cavaliers used three home runs in the fourth inning, all part of a seven-run inning. Joey Holiga hit a two-run home run before Czech followed with a solo shot to left field. With the bases loaded, Lefebvre plated one with a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 8-4. Davis Burick hit a three-run blast to left field as Walsh led 11-4 after four innings. Brenden Spaulding delivered a solo blast to left field in the fifth as Walsh pushed the lead to 12-4. Holiga hit his second home run of the day, a solo blast to left field in the seventh inning. Mount Vernon Nazarene closed the scoring with three runs in the top of the ninth. Walsh won 13-7.
Holiga had three hits, including two home runs while driving in three and scoring three runs. Czech, Spaulding, Cam Kaiser and Austin Marko all had multi-hit games.
Hyatt Shenefield, Tyler Giesige, Todd Bangtson and MJ Nara all pitched scoreless innings of relief in the contest.
Walsh will conclude the regular season with a series versus Malone next weekend at home.
