Box Score HILLSDALE, Michigan - The Walsh Cavaliers women's basketball team kicked off 2022 with a roadtrip to take on one of the conference's top teams in the Hillsdale Chargers. Walsh bounced back from a New Year's Eve loss in a big way, a 103-64 win over the Chargers on Thursday (Jan. 6) night.
Walsh started the game with the first eight points before the Chargers tallied six straight points. Hillsdale got within two points but that was the closest Hillsdale got. Walsh ended the first quarter on a 9-2 run as they led 17-8 after one period. The Cavaliers outscored the Chargers 31-15 over the majority of the second quarter as Walsh's lead grew to 25, 48-23 with one minute left. Hillsdale closed the half with a six-point run as they trailed 48-29. Walsh extended the lead to as many as 34 in the third quarter, including a 9-0 run at the end of the third quarter. The score was 82-48 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Walsh pushed the lead to 40 twice before closing out a 103-64 win.

FOR THE CAVALIERS:
- Mayci Sales led all scorers with 25 points overall, on 12-of-16 shooting (1-2 from deep). She grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a pair of shots. 14 of her 25 points came in the first half with ten in the first quarter.
- Sales has reached second all-time in scoring, now with 1,728 career points.
- Morgan McMillen knocked down seven three pointers in a 23-point effort. She scored 17 points in the second quarter with five straight three pointers.
- Sha Carter earned her fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, shooting seven-of-12 from the floor. She dished out five assists.
- Morgan Darnell set a career-high eight assists with eight points.
- Jamie Schmeltz tied a career-high with eight points.
- Lexie Scarton tallied six points, eight rebounds and five assists.
- Ten different players scored as Walsh shot 57.9% (44-76) from the floor in the game. From the three-point arc, Walsh connected on 12 three pointers with a 38.7% shooting percentage.
- Walsh set a Division II era best with 28 assists.
- The Cavaliers held a 47-24 rebounding edge, setting a season best mark.
FOR THE CHARGERS:
- Grace Touchette led the Chargers with 16 points while Caitlin Splain added 12 points.
- Sydney Mills scored eight points and eight rebounds.
- Hillsdale shot 39% overall, making 23-of-59 shots.
Walsh will travel to Findlay on Saturday (Jan. 8) for a G-MAC matchup with the Oilers. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM at Niekamp Arena.
