#19 CAVALIERS SPLIT OPENING WEEKEND IN THE G-MAC/GLVC CROSSOVER

NORTH CANTON, OH - Basketball returned to Alumni Arena this weekend with the G-MAC/GLVC Crossover. The event featured Walsh, Tiffin, UMSL and Maryville. In Game One of the Crossover, Walsh fell once again to the team that sent them home last season. University of Missouri St. Louis dominated the Cavs, winning 70 to 53 in a game that UMSL led the whole time. Walsh shot an abysmal 31.7% from the field, whereas UMSL shot 48.2% and out-rebounded the Cavs by six.
    In Day Two, the Cavs beat Maryville, 72-61. Walsh had four players in double-digits as they came back from a first-half deficit. Tim Smith Jr. dominated on the offensive end to lead all scorers with 23 points; shooting 60% from the field and 75% from three. Walsh had a strong defensive performance, out-rebounding Maryville by 15. In addition to strong defensive efforts, the Cavs were able to shoot 46.4% from the field while holding the Saints to 36.2%.

  • Bowen Sandquist had the hot hand, racking up 20 points on a 6-for-10 effort from three.
  • Victor Nwagbarachoa nearly opened up his season with a double-double as he contributed 17 points and 8 boards. Like Sandquist, he was very efficient on the night, shooting 70% from the field.
  • UMSL shot 48.2% overall (27-56), 40% (10-25) from three, and 6-of-7 at the charity stripe.
FOR THE CAVALIERS vs MARYVILLE
  • Tim Smith Jr. led Walsh with 23 points while hauling in seven boards.
  • Garrison Keeslar recorded his first double-double of the season.18 points, going 8-for-16 from the floor, and 11 rebounds.
  • Owen Hazelbaker helped spark the Cavs with a few big threes as he racked up 15 points on the afternoon.
  • Milan Square had a huge impact off the bench as he looked determined to grab every rebound in sight, while knocking down four clutch free-throws to seal the deal for the Cavs. He ended with ten points and nine defensive rebounds.
FOR MARYVILLE
  • Dewayne Vass helped keep his Saints in a close game as he totaled 14 points with three of his team's eight assists.
  • Ari Jackson led the team in points with 18. He made six threes that didn't touch anything but the bottom of the net.
  • Maryville shot 35.5% (11-31) from three and 8-of-10 at the charity stripe.
Walsh will look to grab another win on Tuesday, November 15th,  as they take on Carnegie Mellon, at 6:00 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
