NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Interim Vice President of Athletics/Athletic Director Jason Fautas has announced the appointment of Johnnie Legrair as the new head volleyball coach at Walsh University on Monday (August 1).
Legrair becomes the 12th head coach in program history, bringing nearly eight years of coaching experience in both men's and women's volleyball.
"I want to thank Jason Fautas and the search committee for the opportunity to braid my passion for Volleyball with my career in higher education at Walsh University," stated Legrair. "The proven strength of women's volleyball on campus paired with the institution's service leadership values will be a tremendous help for my personal mission to facilitate the growth of Volleyball opportunities for both underserved and well respected athletic communities alike. Overall, I'm looking forward to joining the continued growth and successes of our programs at Walsh University as we collectively enhance the student-athlete experience."
He was a Multicultural Admissions counselor here at Walsh before he will transition to coaching. Over the last nine years, Legrair has coached at all three levels – club, high school and college between both genders.
"We are excited to welcome Johnnie Legrair as Walsh's next head volleyball coach," Interim Vice President of Athletics/Athletic Director Jason Fautas said. "Johnnie has been very involved in the game of volleyball as a coach and can bring a great vision to the Walsh program. I am looking forward to him building on our past success in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference not only on the court but as well as in the classroom and in the community.
Within the last year, he was the head coach of the Kent State Men's Club Volleyball Team and the assistant coach at Lake Center Christian in Uniontown for girls' volleyball.
Legrair graduated from Malone University in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in History and is currently earning his Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling between Malone and now Walsh. He was a track & field student-athlete at Malone while he completed his undergraduate work.

In between his coaching stints at Malone, Legrair was a men's volleyball assistant coach at Hiram College with the Terriers.
