WOMEN'S GOLF OPENS SEASON WITH STRONG PERFORMANCE AT YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO- The Walsh University Women's Golf team opened their 2022-23 season at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational. The 36 hole event was played at Millcreek-North Course and consisted of a split field of Division I and II programs. The maroon and gold set a new 36-hole program record after posting rounds of 313 and 310 for a two day total of 623. The previous record held was from last season when the women competed at the Music City Invite in Nashville and posted a 36-hole total of 626.

RESULTS LOCATION: Youngstown, OH (Millcreek-North) SCORES: Walsh(313-310) FOR THE CAVALIERS: 
  • Freshman, Emily Liptak, paced the Cavs in her first collegiate event after firing rounds of 73-75.
  • Liptak placed first overall in the Division II bracket and sixth overall in the entire field.
  • Madison Ardelean placed tied for fourth with her rounds of 78 and 79.
  • Maddie Owens carded rounds of 78 and 81 to place her sixth overall.
  • The trio of Francesca Sberna, Grace Thompson and Sophia Rosa all tied for thirteenth place.
  • Sberna carded a first round of 86 and was able to shave a significant amount of strokes in round 2 after posting a 77.
  • Thompson would tally rounds of 84 and 79.
  • Freshman, Sophia Rosa, kept things consistent with her rounds of 81 and 82.
The Cavs head up to Michigan to compete in a two event swing at Ferris State and Grand Valley State on September 24th through the 26th.
