EASTLAKE, OH: It was a great day for the Walsh University Baseball team as they continued their dominance in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Not only did the Cavs gain two more wins on the season, Head Coach,
Tim Mead recorded his 900th career victory. Mead has been at the helm of Cavalier Baseball for 40 years. He is a Walsh Alum and a member of the Walsh Wall of Fame. Coach Mead has clinched the G-MAC tournament every year since the University joined the conference during the 2017-2018 academic year. Last season, he led the Cavaliers to a conference championship and an NCAA Midwest Regional appearance. He is the winningest coach in Walsh Athletics history. He would like to add that during his time at Walsh, he is "so very blessed to be and have been surrounded by phenomenal people and players as well as outstanding coaches."
On the diamond, in game one, the Cavaliers got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning. Lake Erie responded, tieing it up and taking the lead. That didn't last long as the Maroon and Gold bats got hot. Walsh would score 12 runs between the 5th and 9th innings to secure another conference win.
In game two, the Cavs had to battle back from a 4-0 deficit. Down 4-0 in the top of the third, home runs from
Ben Lefebvre and Benny Hymes IV would cut the Storm lead. It was all Walsh after that as the Cavs scored five more unanswered runs to win 8-4. Due to the Easter break, the series between Lake Erie and Walsh was split up. The series will wrap up, in Eastlake, on April 26th.
Walsh will return to
Tim Mead Field this weekend as they will host the Ashland Eagles for double headers on both Friday and Saturday afternoon.
