CAVS SWEEP KWC, DEFEAT WHEELING TO CONTINUE WIN STREAK

NORTH CANTON, OH AND WHEELING, WV: The Cavaliers continued their 2023 campaign this past weekend with another home series against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Cavs closed out the series with a sweep and outscored the Panthers 18-7. The sweep of the Panthers was the Maroon and Gold's first sweep of the season and third consecutive conference series win. On 4/4, Walsh Baseball traveled to Wheeling University, for a non conference contest. They secured the victory in West Virginia, 8-5. After starting 0-8, the team has won six consecutive games and have regained over .500 status. The Cavs take the field again on 4/12 vs Lake Erie in Painesville, OH.

FOR THE CAVS GAME 1
  • Nick Lallathin started on the mound in game one for the Cavs. He threw a complete 9 inning game giving up two runs on eight hits.
  • Benny Hymes IV had a great day at the plate with four hits. Cam Hollobaugh also had three hits on the day.
  • Matt McGrath also had a multi-hit game, while scoring 3 runs for the Cavs.
FOR THE CAVS GAME 2
  • Brody Ware threw 5 innings. He had seven strikeouts and gave up three runs.
  • Zach Thompson and Cole Brogan closed the game out allowing zero runs and just two hits combined.
  • Brady Maciak hit a walk-off single, scoring Ben Lefebvre in the seventh to give the Cavs a 4-3 victory over the Panthers.
FOR THE CAVS GAME 3
  • Asher Soltis threw a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and striking out three.
  • Eli Sutton had a great day at the plate, going two for three and getting the Cavs on the board by scoring on an RBI single in the fifth by Brodey Acres.
FOR THE CAVS GAME 4
  • Alex Beyerle started on the mound. He went seven strong innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out four.
  • Marshall Shepherd pitched one inning for the Cavs, giving up zero runs with two strikeouts. Cole Brogan closed the door for the Cavs in the ninth.
  • Brodey Acres had a day at the plate, going four for four and driving in the tying run in the seventh inning.
  • Shea Simmer drove in the go ahead run in the seventh, giving the Cavs a 3-2 win.
FOR THE CAVS VS WHEELING 
  • Matt McGrath led the Cavalier offense, going 4-5 with three RBI's. He had two home runs on the day and a double. 
  • Benny Hymes IV was also a key member of the offense, going 3-5 at the plate, with two RBI's. His hits included a home run and a double. 
  • Ben Lefebvre was 1-3, with a walk and and two RBI's. 
  • Pitcher, Justin Molloy, got the win on the mound. He went 2.2 innings and struck out three.
