CEDARVILLE, OH: After battling delays with weather, the double header series vs Cedarville finally began at Lady Jacket Field. The Maroon and Gold started off with a bang, scoring two quick runs in the top of the first.
Sara Gockenbach kept the home team quiet throughout as the Cavs struck again in the fifth taking a commanding 4-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets did not fall easy as they tied the game up at four in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman pitcher,
Lindsey Leeds relieved Gockenbach in the sixth and recorded the final out of the inning.
Sarah Moats,
Kaylee Nolte and
Sarah Cantley all got on base to kick off the top of the seventh. Thanks to
Kalin Kovach contact and errors from the Yellow Jackets the Cavs scored two runs. The Yellow Jackets would continue with errors allowing the Cavs to score two more.
Bryn Elliott scored
Ellie Jackson on a sac bunt giving the Maroon and Gold a 9-4 lead. With two ground outs and a strike out, the Cavs would record the game one victory, 9-4.
Game two was a much slower pace as scoring was limited from both teams. The difference were the timely hits by Cedarville, giving them the 4-0 advantage. Walsh would leave eight on base in the second game.
The Walsh Softball team now has a small break over Easter but will return to the diamond on April 15th, at home, vs Ursuline College.
