MAROON AND GOLD SUFFER FIRST LOSS IN OWENSBORO

OWENSBORO, KY: The third game of the season for the Cavaliers came down to the final seconds but ended in a Kentucky Wesleyan victory. Walsh entered the game 2-0 for the first time in over a decade led by their defense, but it was the offense that led the way in this game. Late in the first quarter, the Cavs took the lead with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Wickard to Tavion Jackson. After a Kentucky Wesleyan field goal, Walsh would strike again with a 6-yard touchdown from Dom Jennings which was his first of 2 touchdowns on the day. The Maroon and Gold would take a 14-10 lead into the locker room.

Midway through the third quarter, Hayden Wickard connected with Tavion Jackson again for a 37-yard touchdown that gave Walsh a 21-17 lead. After a back and forth battle with multiple lead changes, the Cavaliers found themselves with a 28-24 lead with 1:42 left in the game, needing one final stop to put the game away. They were unable to get it as the Panthers drove down the field and scored a game winning touchdown to give them a 31-28 victory.

Next up for the Cavaliers will be their homecoming game against the Thomas More Saints at Larry Staudt Field on Saturday September 23 at 12pm.
