CANTON, OH - The Walsh University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against Malone University in a thrilling Great Midwest Athletic Conference match on Tuesday evening at Pioneer Park. Despite taking an early lead, the Cavaliers were unable to hold off a late surge from the Pioneers.
Walsh started strong, with
Paityn Marino finding the back of the net in the 8th minute, assisted by
Jamie Duskey, to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 advantage. The visitors dominated the first half, outshooting Malone 8-3 and forcing the Pioneer goalkeeper to make four crucial saves.
However, Malone mounted a remarkable comeback in the final minutes of the match. Eliza Wills tied it for the Pioneers in the 83rd minute, with an assist from Gracie Ashton. Just two minutes later, Morgan Kandel scored another goal, assisted by Brynn Mowrer, to secure a 2-1 victory for Malone.
The match was closely contested throughout, with Walsh recording 12 shots (8 on goal) to Malone's 10 (7 on goal). Both goalkeepers were kept busy, with Walsh's netminder making 5 saves and Malone's goalkeeper stopping 7 shots.
The Cavaliers will look to rebound from this tough loss in their next match against Cedarville University on October 17th in Cedarville, OH, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
