FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - The Walsh University Cavaliers (0-2, 0-0 G-MAC) faced a tough challenge in their second game of the season, falling to the undefeated Nova Southeastern Sharks (5-0, 0-0 Sunshine State) 101-57 on Friday night at Rick Case Arena. Despite a valiant effort, the Cavaliers struggled to keep pace with the high-powered Sharks offense, which shot an impressive 51.3% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc. Nova Southeastern's MJ Iraldi led all scorers with 28 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
Walsh's offense was led by
Quintero Barnett, who finished with 14 points on 5-of-15 shooting, including four three-pointers.
Aiden Satterfield added 12 points and 5 assists, while
Ayden Carter contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds. The Cavaliers kept the game competitive in the first half, trailing 45-31 at the break. However, Nova Southeastern's offense exploded in the second half, outscoring Walsh 56-26 to pull away for the decisive victory.
Walsh's struggles were evident in their shooting percentages, as they finished the game shooting just 35.8% from the field and 30% from three-point range. The team also struggled from the free-throw line, failing to convert any of their four attempts. Defensively, the Cavaliers had difficulty containing Nova Southeastern's balanced attack, with five Sharks players scoring in double figures. Walsh's
Zack Oddo led the team with 9 rebounds but was unable to stop Nova's offensive onslaught.
Despite the loss, Walsh showed flashes of potential, particularly in their ball movement, as they recorded 17 assists on 24 made field goals. The team will look to build on this aspect of their game as they continue their non-conference schedule.
Looking ahead, the Cavs are set to play their first home game of the season against Kent State University Tuscarawas on Saturday, November 23rd at Alumni Arena. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 P.M., and it will be an important opportunity for the Cavaliers to bounce back in front of their home crowd.
