NORTH CANTON, OH: Cavalier Women's Basketball welcomed Lake Superior State for their home opener in Alumni Arena. The Cavs started the game off very strong taking a commanding 22-13 lead to end the first quarter. LSSU crawled back into the game, however, cutting the Cavs lead down to just 7, with the Cavs up 37-30 going into half time. The third quarter was a fairly even contest with LSSU just finishing the quarter better than Walsh, winning it 19-17, making the game 54-49 in favor of Walsh heading into the 4th. LSSU took the only lead change of the game after a 15-0 run in the fourth. This propelled them 7 points clear of the Cavs who were off the mark in this quarter, shooting just 20% from the field and 20% from the line. The Cavs tried to make a late push, bringing the score back to one point with one minute left, but LSSU hung on to the lead, winning the contest 66-63.
Izzy Callaway once again led the Cavs in points with 13, with Emma Dretke also contributing 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Cavs are back in action, at home, against Saginaw Valley State University, at 5 P.M. on Tuesday.Â
