NORTH CANTON, OH: The Maroon and Gold opened up Great Midwest play this evening against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. The Cavaliers defeated the Yellow Jackets at the end of last season and were looking to continue the win streak. Walsh started the night on the right foot, outscoring Cedarville, 19-12. They made 8 field goals on the way to the 7 point lead. Unfortunately, the rest of the contest, the visitors offense improved as Walsh's struggled. Cedarville outscored the home team the rest of the game.
The final period was a battle. With 21 seconds left,
Izzy Callaway's foul shot put the Cavs up by three points. Cedarville played spoiler, connecting on a layup and a jump shot to go ahead by 1 with about 2 seconds to go. With a Walsh time out and the front court advancement,
Alycia Triplett had a fade away look at the basket to win but the shot came up short.
Walsh returns home on Saturday, vs the University of Findlay. Tip off is set for 1pm.
