NORTH CANTON, OH - The Walsh University Cavaliers triumphed in a thrilling overtime showdown against the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets, securing a hard-fought 75-73 victory in their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener in Alumni Arena. This win improved Walsh's record to 3-2 overall and marked a promising start to their conference campaign, while Cedarville fell to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the G-MAC.
From the opening tip, the Cavaliers demonstrated their determination and resilience. The game was a back-and-forth battle, characterized by 17 lead changes and 11 ties. Walsh established a narrow lead at halftime, 38-34, but Cedarville fought back in the second half, pushing the game into overtime with a final score of 65-65 at the end of regulation.
In the extra period, Walsh's composure shone through.
Zack Oddo emerged as the star of the night, leading all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-23 shooting. His ability to create his own shot and hit crucial baskets down the stretch kept Walsh ahead when it mattered most.
Ayden Carter also played a pivotal role, contributing 19 points and providing vital support on both ends of the court. His timely scoring helped maintain momentum for the Cavaliers as they navigated through a tense overtime period.
Kobe Mitchell added 10 points and demonstrated strong leadership on the floor, while
Aiden Satterfield chipped in with another 10 points. The bench also made significant contributions, ensuring that Walsh maintained its energy throughout the contest.
The Cavaliers' three-point shooting proved to be a key factor in their victory, as they hit 8 of their 25 attempts from beyond the arc.
