CLARKSBURG, WV: Baseball is back for the Walsh Cavaliers as they traveled to Salem University Sunday and Monday to kick off their 2024 campaign. The first game of the season went exactly as planned for the Maroon and Gold, starting off the season with a 7-3 victory over West Virginia State. Walsh had 9 hits in the game, including two home runs from shortstop, Andrew Morse and first baseman, Cam Hollobaugh. Nick Lallathin would take the win on the day pitching 6 innings while collecting 8 strikeouts. Only scattering four hits, the 5th year senior also earned Great Midwest Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Cavaliers would then drop both games on Monday to Salem University. Game 1 against Salem was an offensive struggle as the Cavs only had two hits in the game. Game 2 was back and forth between the teams until a 5-run 5th inning gave Salem the lead and they never looked back, ending the game, 10-7.
The Cavaliers will look to bounce back this upcoming weekend with a double header against Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The Saturday double header is set to start at 12pm.
