ASHLAND,OH: The G-MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships were held this past weekend at Ashland University. The two day event saw many strong performances from the Cavaliers on the Men's and Women's teams! Sophomore, Kya Epps, highlighted the weekend for the Maroon and Gold as she won both the 60m and 200m, resulting in two G-MAC Champion honors! Her time of 23.96 in the 200m is a conference record! Micah Gremling, Cameron Beverly, and Joel Brown had top finishes for the Men. Claire Rethman and Claire Martin finished at the top of their respective events, earning All-Conference Second team honors. Both teams would end up finishing the meet in 6th place. Ashland won the Women's Team Championship and Tiffin won the Men's.
Senior, distance runner, Izzy Rammel, was honored with the Women's Elite 26 Award. This award is given to the Student-Athlete who has the highest GPA in their respective sport, in the entire conference.
On March 8th-9th, Walsh will take multiple athletes to the NCAA DII National Championships! The meet will be held in Pittsburg, Kansas. Those who are not competing will next compete at the beginning of the outdoor season which is March 22nd. That meet will be held at Muskingum University.
FOR THE MEN
· Micah Gremling- Finished 2nd in the 60m and 5th in the 200m. His times were 6.72s and 21.50s.
· Mitchel Dunham- Finished 4th in the 5000m and 5th in the 3000m . His times were 14:41.50 and 8:23.78.
· Drew Monahan- Finished 5th in the 5000m. His time was 14:46.45.
· Men's Distance Medley- Xavier Foehl, Trevor Bean, Brody Pumneo, and Seth Macura finished 3rd. The Medley's time was 9:49.96.
· Cameron Beverly- Finished 3rd in the High Jump. His height was 2.05m or 6'8.75".
· Joel Brown- PR'd in the Heptathalon and finished 2nd. He scored 5040 points, which is a Provisional mark! He is currently 22nd in the nation! He also finished 5th in the High Jump. His height was 1.90m or 6'2.75".
FOR THE WOMEN
· Kya Epps- PR'd and finished 1st in the 200m and 60m. Her times were 23.96s and 7.43s which are both Provisional marks. She is currently 9th in the 200m and 13th in the 60m in the nation.
· Claire Rethman- Finished 2nd in the Mile. Her time was 5:00.62.
· Camryn Barker- PR'd and finished 4th in the 5000m. Her time was 17:39.53.
· Claire Martin- Finished 2nd in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Her distances were 5.78m or 18'11.75" and 11.85m or 38'10.5", which are both are Provisional marks.
