Box Score 4 FINDLAY, OH: The Cavaliers traveled west this past weekend to play fellow conference member, the Findlay Oilers. This was the first road series for the team since March 23rd and 24th. The series was much anticipated as the Cavs and Oilers are both atop the G-MAC standings. Day 1 was all about the Maroon and Gold as they earned two wins to secure at least a series split.
Game 1 started off hot, for both teams, as the Oilers put up 5 runs in the second inning. Walsh bounced back right away putting up 4 of their own in the third and tieing it in the fourth. The battle continued as both teams crossed the plate, knotting it up at 6 a piece. The 8th inning made all the difference, putting the Cavaliers in the drivers seat thanks to Brodey Acres. His 2 RBI single to left field lifted the Maroon and Gold.
The offensive efforts slowed down for both teams, in Game 2, becoming a pitching duel to the very end. Pitchers Alex Beyerle and Noah Sample would split time on the mound allowing only one run between the two of them. Shea Simmer had the only RBIs of the game which came in the 4th inning, thanks to a triple off the wall.
Unfortunately day 2 was not like day 1 for Walsh. Games 3 and 4 were led by an offensive explosion from Findlay, as they put up 27 runs combined in the two games. A combination of walks and errors committed by the Cavaliers led to the losses.
The Cavaliers will look to complete a series sweep against the Malone Pioneers on Wednesday April 24th at Thurman Munson Stadium. The broken up, midweek series will conclude with a doubleheader starting at noon.
