NORTH CANTON, OH: The Walsh University Cavaliers hosted the Hillsdale College Chargers for a four-game conference series at Biery Stadium. This was the final series of the regular season for Walsh.
GAMES 1 AND 2: Walsh Swept the opening doubleheader. The Cavs rode a balanced offensive attack to an 8-3 victory in game one. They then survived an offensive slugfest to take game two 9-7.
Andrew Morse and
Brodey Acres had big games at the plate in the opener, combining for 4 hits and 4 RBIs. In game two,
Brandon Hire sparked Walsh's 9-run fifth inning outburst by going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
GAME 3: Hillsdale responded in game three, rallying with a five-run seventh inning to overcome an early 5-1 deficit and win 10-7.
Benny Hymes IV and
Andrew Morse each collected two hits and an RBI for the Cavaliers.
GAME 4: Looking to gain a split on the day, Walsh came out swinging in the finale. The Cavs erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open.
Brady Maciak went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs, while
Brodey Acres and
Benny Hymes IV each drove in three runs.
Cam Benoit also chipped in an RBI double. Despite allowing single runs in five different innings, Walsh's big fourth-inning outburst proved too much for Hillsdale to overcome as the Cavaliers took the final game 11-6.
Martin Polonkay earned the win, allowing just one earned run over 5.1 innings of work.
Brandon Cahill provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. With the series split, Walsh's record moved to 27-21 overall while Hillsdale fell to 21-28.
NEXT UP: The Cavaliers will look to carry the momentum into the G-MAC Tournament as they take on the #4 seeded Trevecca Nazarene Trojans. This game will take place on Wednesday May 8
th at 4:30. The tournament is being held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
