NORTH CANTON, OH - The Walsh University Cavaliers dominated on Maroon and Gold weekend against Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a decisive 54-10 victory. The Cavaliers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up 23 points in the first quarter alone.
Walsh's offense was firing on all cylinders from the start. Quarterback
Dalys Jett had an efficient day, completing 7 of 11 passes for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns. His favorite target was
Jake Gill, who hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass. The ground game was equally impressive, with Jett leading the way by rushing for 108 yards and a score on just 8 carries.
The Cavaliers' defense was equally dominant, forcing multiple turnovers that directly led to points.
Ty Miller and JaJuan Jackson both returned interceptions for touchdowns, while
Rocco Iacino scooped up a fumble and took it 17 yards to the end zone.
Kentucky Wesleyan struggled to generate any consistent offense against Walsh's swarming defense. The Panthers were held to just 117 total rushing yards, with Brandon Mackey providing their lone bright spot on a 45-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
By halftime, Walsh had built a commanding 30-3 lead. They continued to pour it on in the third quarter, scoring three more touchdowns to push the advantage to 51-3. A field goal early in the fourth quarter capped off the scoring for the Cavaliers.
The win moves Walsh to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. They'll look to keep the momentum going when they host Thomas More next Saturday at Larry Staudt Field.
