CAVS COMPETE, FALL TO #17 ASHLAND

ASHLAND, OH: The Walsh Cavalier Football team suffered a hard-fought 23-16 loss over #17 Ashland University on Saturday. Walsh (6-3, 4-3) started strong, marching 61 yards on their opening drive and taking a 7-0 lead on a short touchdown pass from Cole Norris to Jake Gill. Ashland responded with a 39-yard field goal then a 39 yard touchdown rush to take a 10-7 lead. The final two minutes of the half was a kicking dual as Jarrad Kerekes tied the game at 10, until the Ashland kicker nailed a 59 yarder to take a 13-10 lead into the halftime break.

The kicking dual continued as the Eagles extended their lead in the third quarter with another field goal. Walsh's defense came up with an interception by Jerijah Moore that led to another Jarrad Kerekes field goal, trimming the deficit to 16-13 heading into the fourth.?

Ashland's offense delivered a signature moment early in the final frame, mounting a 10-play, 90-yard drive that extended their lead to 10. Another Kerekes field goal put the Cavs within a score but the Eagles defense rose to the occasion in the closing minutes, sacking Walsh's quarterback on three straight plays to end the Cavaliers' last real threat.

The Cavaliers will return home for their final two game of the season. The next game will be the annual Salute to Service, honoring military and first responders. Kick off is set for November 8th at 12pm.
