2/3/2025 4:22:00 PM

NORTH CANTON, OH: Although Biery Stadium has been cover in snow for most of the winter, the Walsh University Baseball team is ready to get back on the field. With opening day right around the corner, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference released the 2025 Preseason Coaches Poll this afternoon. With a new format this season, the Cavs are atop the South Division preseason standings being voted #1.

Under the leadership of Tim Mead, the winningest coach in Walsh history, the Cavs open up their 2025 campaign on February 14th in Salem, WV.

Key returners for the Maroon and Gold include: All G-MAC Brodey Acres, who will play short stop this season, first basemen, Cam Hollobaugh, who led the Cavs in HR's & RBI's, veteran, Andrew Morse, who will play second, center fielder, Mason Stoldt, and catcher Grant Blomeke. Returning pitchers for the Cavaliers are Brandon Cahill, Alex Beyerle, Marty Polonkay, Chad Harper, Justin Malloy, Patrick Ciccantelli, and Marshall Shepherd. Newcomers on the bump will be Beau Alazaus, Nick Petro, Luke Jansen, Hunter Hoffman, Hayden Hrach, Matt Tierno, AJ Wertz, and Matt Majewski. Other new talent will be C/DH Ryan Bruni, OF's Kyle Benson and Mike Steingass, transfer OF Josh Algarin, and infielder Chris Kramer.

With the first pitch coming soon, the Cavs have been busy since August. "Fall ball helped us grow and progress as a team. We gained strength and cohesiveness in the weight room that will help each player contribute this season. Baseball is played 1 pitch & 1 game at a time and we will continue to approach the season that way!"

Opening day is set for 2/14 against Salem University. After 18 games on the road to start the season, the Cavs home opener will be on March 18th vs Slippery Rock.
