NORTH CANTON, OH: The Walsh University softball team dropped both games of their Senior Day doubleheader against Findlay University on Sunday, April 13, falling 5-1 in the opener before losing 9-2 in the second game at WU Softball Complex. The Cavaliers move to 10-22 overall (9-20 G-MAC), while the Oilers improve to 27-9.
Game 1: Findlay 5, Walsh 1
Findlay struck first when Anna Jones scored on Kora Navarro's RBI single in the first inning. Senior catcher Madi Russo answered with a solo homer in the second to tie the game. The Oilers regained the lead in the third on Navarro's RBI groundout and added insurance runs in the seventh on Jayden Frazier's two-run homer and a stolen base play. Maci Smythe (3-9) took the loss despite striking out five over seven innings.
Game 2: Findlay 9, Walsh 2
The Oilers jumped out to an 8-0 lead through three innings, capitalizing on two Walsh errors. The Cavaliers scored both runs in the fourth when Russo doubled home Danielle Stewart and Danielle Lude drove in Hope Barrett with a groundout. Chloe Sayre (5-4) allowed seven runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings to take the loss.
Between games, Walsh honored its four seniors: Madi Russo (C), Emma Kelley (2B), Kaylee Nolte (OF), and Hannah Pfundt (1B).
